
Liberia will be joining Sierra Leone, Gambia, Nigeria and Ghana to take the 2018 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)For many years, the West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) entrance exam has been the gateway for Liberian students wishing to further university examination.
Giving the analysis of this year's WAEC performance, the Head of WAEC Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe said that the previous examination served as the end of such exams, as the country is well prepared to be part of the regional examination.
Mr. Gbotoe said that there is no excuse for Liberia not to be a part of this examination since Sierra Leone which shares everything in common with Liberia has been part of the system for many years.

Mr. Gbotoe said that the WASSCE system provides students to choose from a range of subjects relating to every discipline, and Liberian candidates will be opportune to choose 9 subjects out of 24 that will be introduced.
Mr. Gbotoe said that in a recent competition held within the five countries, the candidate who happens to be a tenth grade student showcased that Liberia has what it takes to compete in the region.
"This is an opportunity for the country to match up with the educational system in the West African region. We believe that this is the time for our students to compete with other countries in the region and showcased how talented we are", he said.
Assuring their collaborative efforts, the Assistant Minister for Secondary Education at the Ministry of Education, Madam Felicia Doe-Somah said that the government is aware of the challenges that the new examinational system will bring, but already, there is mechanism which has been mapped in ensuring that students adapt to it.Madam Soman clarified that schools will be re-opened on the 4th of September despite speculations that the upcoming general elections will deter the process.
She called on every teacher to take their work serious as some teachers continue to be paid in full while they only teach three times a week.
Speaking on the new WASSCE system, the Government Deputy Chief nominee from MOE to WAEC, Mrs. Madia Herring, said that the Government has hired the service of a curriculum specialist to develop mechanisms which will be adopted in the school system.
